Under the FDA approval, hearing aids can be bought without medical exams or prescriptions.
Lower-cost hearing aids have been made available over the counter for the first time in the U.S. In August, the Food and Drug Administration approved hearing aids to be sold without patients being seen by an audiologist, and the final rule from the president’s administration when into effect on Monday.
The White House announced, “Hearings aids are now on store shelves across the country—for thousands of dollars less than they previously cost.“ Under FDA’s final rule, “Adults with mild-to-moderate hearing loss can buy hearing aids at a store or online without a prescription, exam, or audiologist fitting.“
